We bid farewell to Fr Antony who has been with us at the parish for 7 months. Thank you for the ministry you have shared, for your giftedness, dedication and presence. Also for the friendship, guidance and care you have given. We wish Fr Antony God’s blessings in his next appointment in Darwin from September 2017 and then to Canberra from January 2018.

To our Hospital Visiting Group!

After 47 years of involvement and service to parishioners in nursing homes
the Hospital Visiting Group have decided to retire.
They've been an amazing group of caring people who gave so much of their time
to the many residents through friendship, faith and love.
The group brought much joy to many and made them feel that they belonged
to a community of faith.
The parish will continue to nourish the seed that was planted.

Our heartfelt thank you!!!!

Fr Hoa Nguyen, Fr Simon Kitimbo, Fr Arthur Givney, Fr Danny Meagher and Bishop Richard Umbers
for assisting in the parish from November 2016 to 31 January 2017. We pray that your time with us was fruitful, faith-filled and enjoyable. We thank you and pray that they receive many blessings throughout your vocation.

Fr John has now retired from full-time parish work (as of 1 November 2016).
The parish celebrated various farewell events over the weeks leading to his last day on 31 October.

Staff - Past & Present "Thank You" Dinner
Held on Friday 14 October.... what a reunion of friends!

Two "Farewell & Thank You" Dinners for Fr John were held on Friday 28 October at 7.30pm at Mortdale RSL Club and on Saturday 29 October at 7.30pm at Maso's Club. Both were well attended, over 410 parishioners in total. Louis McGuigan, one of St Declan's parishioners, addressed both dinners. He spoke about the spirit in St Declan's Parish and how it continued to flourish under John's leadership... Lou touched the heart and soul of what it means to serve a community.
John caught up with all who attended both dinners. John was also presented with an unexpected and most generous gift from Club Central on the Saturday night. A great time was had by all who attended either night.

On Sunday 30 October we celebrated with Fr John his final Masses for the weekend. 11am Mass was a little extra special where musicians and choir, made up of parishioners, lead the congregation in song chosen by John. Towards the end of this mass, Monica Hayes, Parish Council representative, thanked John for his inspiration, courage, integrity and support over the years. A most eloquent speech. John was then presented with a parish card, signed by hundreds of parishioners, a gift of a laptop and spending money. 11am Mass was followed by a parish BBQ.

We wish John all the very best for the future and hope that his future be filled with every blessing. John has, through his leadership, friendship and care, shown us how to live out the Gospel in our lives... to be servants to others and to serve with love, compassion, joy and humility. THANK YOU FR JOHN!

The parish thanked and farewelled the Sisters of St Joseph at 6pm Vigil Mass on 24 September. Their service and ministry will continue elsewhere. The sisters have been an integral part of the school and parish life for over 100 years. We wish them continued joy within their life and in their vocation.
